Property Influencers: How much could you make from your home?

You might have heard the term ‘influencer’ when it comes to celebrities and well-known people using their social media accounts to promote products and services.

Now many of those celebrities are becoming ‘homefluencers’, too – showcasing their stylish properties and interior designs to their huge social media followings.

‘Homefluencing’ isn’t just reserved for the rich and famous, though.

Many people are using Instagram to document their property renovations or interior design work – and many of them are making serious money from doing so.

Here, we’ve listed some of the top ‘homefluencers’ on social media right now and revealed how much they could be earning from their property posts…

Home Renovation Instagram Accounts

Instagram accounts dedicated to home renovations have become huge in recent years – and the people who run them look to be making good money from their posts, too.

Top of the pile in this category is Susanna Hawkins, otherwise known as Schnordic.

A former neuroscientist who documented her property renovation in Bath on her Instagram account, Susanna has built up a following in excess of 350,000 and earns an estimated £1,361 for every post on her account.

Mum of four Katie Woods, meanwhile, is in second place with a projected post fee of £777.

Her renovation project in Leeds has seen her following exceed 220,000 people.

Celebrity and Influencer Home Instagram Accounts

Of course, most people think of ‘influencers’ as celebrities and many of them now run separate Instagram accounts documenting their homes and love of interiors.

Love Island duo Alex and Olivia Bowen have been documenting the renovation of their £1million Essex home on their @thebowenhome account and have built a following in excess of 700,000 people. The Bowens earn an estimated £2,513 for each post on their account – in addition to promotional earnings on their personal accounts.

Away from Love Island, TV presenters Rochelle and Marvin Humes now have almost 200,000 following the interior design journey of their London home – earning around £700 per post from the account.

How much is my home worth?

How much your home is worth depends on a number of factors – including how appealing your interior is to buyers.

The best way to find out how much your home is worth is to have it valued by an estate agent.

Your agent will consider the local market and other, similar properties in their valuation, as well as the condition and appeal of your home.

How to increase the value of my home

Whether you have a large renovation budget, or you just want to spruce up your home before selling, there are a host of things you can do add value to your home:

1. Redecorate and repair

A lick of paint and some maintenance work around the house can make a huge difference in the eyes of buyers.

As well as redecorating, consider fixing issues like:

• Squeaky or uneven flooring

• Damaged or mouldy sealant in bathrooms

• Dripping taps

• Broken tiles

• Peeling wallpaper

• Small cracks in walls or ceilings

2. Replace or repaint your front door

First impressions really count and adding a new front door, or painting the one you have, can make a big difference to your property’s appeal.

3. A kitchen makeover

If you have the budget, extending or replacing your kitchen is a great way to add value to your home.

Kitchens are a major focal point for buyers who want a real ‘heart of the home’ and a modern space to entertain.

4. Freshen up your bathrooms

Think about replacing old taps and painting bathroom walls to create a fresh appearance.

You could even consider a full bathroom makeover if you really want to make a statement and add value to your property before selling.

5. Make your garden appealing

Outdoor space has really jumped up the priority list for buyers since the onset of the pandemic, so think about spending some of your budget on your garden.

Consider a decking or patio area that can be used for al-fresco dining, or a new shed for increased storage.

Interior design trends for 2021

Interior design trends for 2021 are all about individuality and being bolder with your choices.

Here are the three main trends making waves:

1. Green – deep greens for walls, coupled with softer shades for furnishings are very much on trend

2. Natural materials – rustic timbers and rattan are helping to add a feeling of nature to interiors

3. Japandi – the combination of minimalist Japanese styling and natural Scandinavian tones is proving to be a hit with designers

When thinking about ways to add value to your home, it can also pay to consider the things that could de-value it – we’ve outlined many of those right here.
